Shillong is the capital town of the beautiful state of Meghalaya located in Northeast India. It is also the headquarters of the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya. The district administration looks after the district development as a whole. The district administration is run by the Deputy Commissioner.
The town of Shillong is managed by the Shillong Municipal Board which supervises the maintenance and ensures smooth running of different departments of the town. Meghalaya Urban Development Agency(MUDA)
In May 1991, MUDA was formed and registered as a Society under the Meghalaya Societies Registration Act, 1983. The object of the agency is to plan and help the local bodies in the utilization of schemes related to the urban poor for improvement of their physical environment, socio-economic condition and quality of life. The organization is to function as an agency to monitor the proper utilization of fund, and assess the project and manage the schemes relating to urban poor. MUDA is a branch of the Shillong municipal board, which includes the MUDA complex as well. MUDA has its office in the capital, Shillong and supervises all work of the state from its Shillong office.
